"To enhance the value, image, and visibility of Eastern Washington University"
"Maximizing Opportunities Every Day"
The Eastern Washington University athletic program is designed to be an integral component of the university community. The university sponsors 14 intercollegiate sports, six for men and eight for women, both as learning opportunities for its most athletically talented students and an enhancement to student and community life.
Under the control of the university's board of trustees, intercollegiate athletics are governed by an athletic policy board composed of faculty, students and staff members. The policy board makes recommendations in all matters relating to athletics.
Men's teams at Eastern include football, basketball, cross country, tennis and indoor/outdoor track and field. Women compete in volleyball, basketball, cross country, tennis, golf and indoor/outdoor track and field. Women's soccer was added in the fall of 1997.

Other member institutions are Cal State-Sacramento in Sacramento, California; Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho; Weber State University in Ogden, Utah; University of Montana in Missoula, Montana; Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana; Portland State University in Portland, Oregon; University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado; and Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona.
