Eastern and Career Athletes Connect Athletes with Mentors and Training
Partnership Attracts Hundreds of Employers for Current and Former Collegiate Athletes
The Eastern Washington University Athletic Department and Career Athletes have recently agreed to a partnership providing student-athletes a truly unique resource for career development.
"It has been the mission or our athletic department at EWU to 'maximize opportunities every day.' This partnership with Career Athletes gives us the ability to extend the services that we are able to provide our student-athletes," said Pamela Parks, Associate Athletic Director/SWA at EWU.
"With this relationship, we can collaboratively create a tangible means to offer growth opportunities and to broaden our student-athletes' networking web. Career Athletes not only assists us to that goal, but will give our people a conduit to former Eagles and other employers who also put a high value on academics and athletic achievement. Career Athletes is providing the link from the past, to the present and on to a better future for all Eagles."
Over the past 12 years, Career Athletes has conducted over 900 training and development seminars at universities throughout the country providing much-needed career education for over 260,000 student-athletes. In addition to their proprietary training and development seminars, Career Athletes builds and maintains customized career networking web sites for individual university athletic departments providing additional career education, mentors, access to career opportunities and potential employers upon graduation, and a platform to connect with athletic alumni who are encouraged to join the network as mentors and/or job seekers.
"It's obvious that the administration at Eastern Washington University cares about its student-athletes beyond their playing days and graduation, and we are excited to be partnered with such an outstanding institution," said Chris Smith, CEO and President of Career Athletes. "Due to the demanding nature of collegiate athletics, these athletes face a unique set of challenges regarding career development not typically experienced by the general student-body. The current economic environment will provide even greater challenges for today's student-athletes to overcome, making career development more important than ever."
"We encourage all current and former Eagles to register with Career Athletes at the link below. They provide guidance on resume, interviewing skills and the like to help connect our athletes with employers all over the country. In this tough job market, this may be a lifeline to a better career." - Pam Parks, Associate AD
