More on the Orland Killin Dinner, Dance & Auction, in partnership with the Michael Roos Foundation . . .
The Roos Foundation previously hosted its own dinner, auction and poker tournament the past two years, but has joined forces with the EWU athletic department for this year’s event. Roos, an All-Pro offensive tackle for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League, will be on hand for the weekend of festivities.
Silent and live auctions will take place, with an additional auction area for an expanded variety of professional sports memorabilia. Included will be player jerseys, including those worn by Roos and other NFL players.
The event starts with a social hour and auction at 4:30 p.m., followed by the dinner (6:15 p.m.), live auction and dancing.
Prior to the dinner, the EWU football team will play its Red-White Spring Football Game at 2 p.m. at Woodward Field. The women’s soccer team will also host its annual Alumni Game at noon. The 22nd Annual Coaches Golf Tournament will take place the day before, with information available by calling Chris Hansen at 509-359-2307.
Net proceeds benefit areas of greatest need within Eastern Athletics. The event is named in honor of Orland Killin, who along with his wife Bernice helped create the event. Orland was a man immensely dedicated to academics and the integrity of Eastern Washington University, serving as professor, faculty athletic representative and faculty president. He was an Eastern football letter winner in 1941-42.
The Michael Roos Foundation was established to support local non-profit organizations, including EWU’s Eagle Athletic Association, Special Olympics in Washington and Boys and Girls Clubs of Spokane County.
Roos, who graduated from Mountain View High School in Vancouver, Wash. in 2000, earned All-Pro honors and was selected to play in the Pro Bowl following the 2008 season.
He has started every game in four seasons as a Titan after earning NCAA Football Championship Subdivision All-America honors and Lineman of the Year accolades as an Eagle senior in 2004. A second-round pick out of Eastern in 2005, Roos has started 64 consecutive regular season games at tackle for the Titans.
Including 35 starts to end his EWU career, Roos enters the 2009 season having made 117 consecutive starts as an offensive tackle. His last 82 starts have come as a Titan (two AFC playoff games, 64 regular season games and 16 pre-season contests). He was even a starter in his first-ever Pro Bowl on Feb. 8.
