Undergraduates compete at National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Quiz Bowl in June
Eastern Washington University student athletic trainers Jake Ritter, Catie Fairgrieve and Caitlin Kokot qualified for a prestigious national competition after winning the 2010 District 10 Quiz Bowl at the Northwest Athletic Trainers Symposium in late March.
Ritter, who previously worked with men’s basketball at Eastern, is from Juneau, Alaska, and is currently doing an internship at North Idaho College. Fairgrieve is from Port Orchard, Wash., and works with men’s basketball and Kokot is a senior from Spokane, Wash., and works with track and field. The trio topped eight other teams from similar programs from Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Alaska.
The Eastern team will be one of ten from around the country competing at the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Quiz Bowl on Thursday, June 24, in Philadelphia, Pa., during the association’s national conference.
The Quiz Bowl is designed to test each student’s knowledge of athletic training, with questions focused on their educational competency of that field of study. The EWU team will compete against teams representing such schools as the University of Florida, Texas Tech, Baylor, Seton Hall, Hofstra, Illinois State and the University of Vermont.
A first-place prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the winning school’s athletic training program.
