More on the Orland Killin Dinner, Dance and Auction . . .

The 29th annual Orland Killin Dinner, Dance & Auction will again take place in partnership with the Michael Roos Foundation for the second-straight year. The Roos Foundation previously hosted its own dinner, auction and poker tournament for two years, but joined forces with the EWU athletic department for Killin in 2009. Roos, an All-Pro offensive tackle for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League, will be on hand for the weekend of festivities. He and his wife, Katherine, recently contributed $500,000 toward the “Red Turf” project at EWU.

Serving as host of the evening is ESPN broadcaster Colin Cowherd, who is a former Eastern journalism student.

Silent and live auctions will take place, with an additional auction area for a variety of professional sports memorabilia. Included will be player jerseys, including those worn by Roos and other NFL players.

Prior to the dinner, the EWU football team will play its Red-White Spring Football Game at 2 p.m. at Woodward Field. The women’s soccer team will also host its annual Alumni Game at noon at the EWU Sports and Recreation Center. The 23rd Annual Coaches Golf Tournament will take place the day before on April 23 at Indian Canyon Golf Course.

Net proceeds benefit areas of greatest need within Eastern Athletics. The event is named in honor of Orland Killin, who along with his wife Bernice helped create the event. Orland was a man immensely dedicated to academics and the integrity of Eastern Washington University, serving as professor, faculty athletic representative and faculty president. He was an Eastern football letter winner in 1941-42.

The Michael Roos Foundation was established to support local non-profit organizations, including EWU’s Eagle Athletic Association, Special Olympics in Washington and Boys and Girls Clubs of Spokane County.

Roos, who graduated from Mountain View High School in Vancouver, Wash. in 2000, earned All-Pro honors and was selected to play in the Pro Bowl following the 2008 season.
The “Red Turf” project was jump-started with a generous initial gift from Roos and his wife Katherine, who are both graduates of Eastern. Roos graduated in 2005 with a double major in finance and economics, and Katherine graduated in 2004 with a degree in urban and regional planning. They now reside in Nashville, Tenn., where Roos earned All-Pro honors for the Titans in 2008. He has started all 80 regular season games as a Titan, plus two playoff games, 21 pre-season games and the 2009 Pro Bowl.

Roos played at Eastern from 2001-04, and ended his Eagle career with 35-straight starts. As a senior in 2004, he earned five different All-America honors and was the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (then I-AA) Lineman of the Year. Roos was drafted in the second round (41st pick overall) by Tennessee in the 2005 draft.
