Eastern starts SnapChat account to provide another social media channel to engage with fans
The Eastern Washington University athletics department has created a SnapChat account, giving fans of the Eagles another opportunity for exclusive, behind-the-scenes content.
Fans can follow Eastern by searching “EWUAthletics” in the “Add Friends” tab of the SnapChat app.
"First and foremost, SnapChat gives us an opportunity to connect with a younger demographic of our fans," said Ken Halpin, Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs. "It's also an exciting opportunity to be one of the first collegiate athletic departments to utilize the platform as an engagement tool."
The app can be downloaded in the App Store for iPhone users, or Google Play for those with Android phones, by searching for "SnapChat." The app is free of charge.
EWU will be utilizing the SnapChat Stories feature and will not be sending or receiving individual snaps. Stories are a collection of snaps, both photo and video, which are combined to create a narrative. Each story lives on the app for 24 hours before it disappears, allowing room for new stories. Stories always play forward, displaying events in the order they happened.
The Eagles' first story will be sent out this Saturday, Dec. 14, coinciding with Eastern's NCAA Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinal playoff game versus Jacksonville State.
