Freshman will throw the javelin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
Michelle Coombs of the Eastern Washington University track and field team will compete Saturday (June 27) at the 2009 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Coombs, a freshman from Hermiston, Ore., will compete in the javelin at 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time and ranks 14th out of 18 athletes entered.
Coombs made her first appearance at the NCAA Championships and finished 25th with a throw of 142-6. She also finished sixth with a throw of 153-4 the NCAA West Regional Championships on May 30 in Eugene, Ore.
She currently ranks third in school history with a throw of 163-1, which came when she won the Big Sky Conference title.
She will compete against familiar faces from the NCAA Championships, including Rachel Yurkovick (1st, 195-7) of the University of Oregon, Kara Patterson (2nd, 190-2) of Purdue and Kim Hamilton (5th, 166-8) of Kent State.
The qualifying standard in the javelin for the USA Championships was 160-9.
