Luckenbach and Wall Named BSC Athletes of the Week
Eagles will host 39th Annual Pelluer Invitational on Friday
Nicole Luckenbach and Brad Wall of the Eastern Washington University track and field teams were named Big Sky Conference Athletes of the Week for their performances on April 2-3 at the Al Manuel Invitational.
Luckenbach is a senior who graduated in 2005 from Snohomish (Wash.) High School and Wall is a sophomore who graduated in 2008 from Evergreen High School in Vancouver, Wash. Both will be competing this week when the Eagles host the 39th Annual Pelluer Invitational in Cheney, Wash., on April 9. Field events begin at noon while running events start at 4 p.m.
Luckenbach, who was named Field Athlete of the Week, had a season-best throw of 189-10 to win the hammer throw. The mark currently places her 21st in the nation and ninth in the west region. She currently holds the school record with a winning mark of 191-11 set last season at the Big Sky Conference Championships.
Wall, who was named Track Athlete of the Week, posted the
conference’s second best 400-meter time of the season and won
the event. His altitude adjusted time of 48.45 puts him 53rd in the
west region, the top 48 results will advance to Austin, Texas,
for the west regional on May 27-29.
Last year at the Pelluer, Luckenbach finished second in that hammer with a throw of 181-10 -- just behind the throw of 185-11 set by Gabby Midles. Wall finished second in the 400 with a time of 48.26 to finish behind the winning time of 48.22 set by Marzell Jenkins of Community College of Spokane.
