Nicole Luckenbach Breaks School Record in the Weight Throw

Record helps Eastern conclude regular season before heading to next week's Big Sky Conference Championships

Nicole Luckenbach of the Eastern Washington University track and field team set a new school record in the weight throw and met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark as the Eagles competed at the Vandal Collegiate Friday (Feb. 20) in Moscow, Idaho.

The record highlighted EWU's final regular season meet before heading to the Big Sky Conference Championships in Bozeman, Mont., next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 26-27).

Luckenbach had a mark of 61-11 3/4 in the weight throw to break Jamie Martin's throw of 60-9 1/2 set in 2002. Luchenbach's throw was 5 1/2 inches over the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships  of 61-6 1/4. She already qualified for the conference championships earlier this season.

Four more Eagles met the qualifying standards for the BSC Championships.  Eastern athletes have now met the league qualifying standards 51 times -- 27 for the men and 24 for the women. The new qualifiers include:

200m - 22.20 - Chad Butorac
Pole Vault - 15-7 - Efrain Sanchez
Shot Put - 50-10 - Marlyn Anderson
High Jump - 5-4 1/2 - Elise Jepsen
