Luckenbach Wins Big Sky Weight Throw Title with Fieldhouse Record

Five more Eagles earn All-BSC honors as EWU concludes Big Sky Conference Championships Saturday

Senior Nicole Luckenbach set a new fieldhouse record en route to winning the weight throw title as the Eastern Washington University track and field team concluded the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships Saturday (Feb. 27) in Bozeman, Mont.

In team scoring, the EWU men were fifth with 77.16 points, while the women were sixth with 58 points. Northern Arizona won the men's title with 132 points and Sacramento State won the women's title with 167 1/2 points.

Luckenbach had a career-best mark of 65-9 to win the weight throw and set a new meet record. She broke the mark of 62-6 set by Northern Arizona's Anna Soderburg in 1996. Luckenbach's mark also broke her own school record that she set earlier this season with a throw of 61-11 3/4 to meet the NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships.

Senior Sarah Frey earned All-BSC honors (placing in the top three) in the 400 meters with a time of 56.48 to finish third. Her time ranks her third in school history behind the time of 56.39 set in 2004 by Haley Heater and the school-record time of 55.9 set in 1979 by Lisa Sorrell.

In the men's high jump, Cody Fishel and Adam Stewart finished second to earn All-BSC honors with a jump of 6-7. Also, Brody Faire finished third in the shot put with a mark of 54-1 1/4 to earn All-BSC honors.

A total of eight All-BSC honors were won by Eastern athletes -- three on Friday and five Saturday.
