Freshmen Finish 1-2 in Women’s Heptathlon at Whitworth

Junior Brandon Lattin finishes second in the men’s decathlon with career-best mark

Freshmen Elise Jepsen (pictured) and Liz Cobb finished 1-2 in the heptathlon that concluded Friday (March 26) as part of the 2010 Buc Scoring Invite and Multi Events Track and Field Meet. In addition, junior Brandon Lattin placed second in the decathlon in the meet hosted by Whitworth University at Boppell Track in Spokane, Wash.

Jepsen, a 2009 graduate of Kamiakin High School in Kennewick, Wash., finished with 3,994 points to rank 10th in school history. Cobb finished right behind with 3,804 points to rank as the 13th-most all-time at EWU. Cobb is a 2009 graduate of Jenkins High School in Chewelah, Wash.

Lattin, a 2007 graduate of Kamiakin High School, scored 5,986 points to rank 13th in school history in the decathlon. He eclipsed his previous high of 5,819 points set in his freshman season in 2008.

Jepsen won three heptathlon events on Thursday’s first day -- the 100-meter hurdles (16.62), high jump (5-3 1/4) and shot put (33-8 1/2). Her highest-scoring event was the high jump where she scored 747 points.

Cobb scored 706 points in winning the 200 meters on Thursday with a 27.07 time. On Friday, she won the javelin (81-11) and the long jump (16-2 1/2).

Lattin’s highest-scoring event was in the 100 meters on Thursday when he scored 759 points with a time of 11.47. He won Friday’s 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.49 to score 679 points.
