Cogdill Named BSC Field Athlete of the Week

At the conference championships in Utah, Cogdill will compete Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Eastern Washington University vaulter Ben Cogdill was named Big Sky Conference Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Vandal Jamboree on May 7-8.

Cogdill, a 2006 graduate of Estacada (Ore.) High School and transfer from Portland State University, shattered EWU’s school record with a winning vault of 16-8 1/4 to break Mike Erickson’s 2005 mark of 16-7 1/4.

Cogdill will compete at 3:00 p.m. on Friday (May 14) in the pole vault. He currently sits second in the BSC behind the mark of 17-0 3/4 set by Idaho State’s Sam Pierson. At the 2009 conference championships, Cogdill finished fifth with a mark of 15-7 and at the 2010 indoor championships he finished second.

He currently ranks 35th in the NCAA Division I West list, with the top 48 advancing to Austin, Texas, for the NCAA West Regionals on May 27-29.
