Chaney has second-best shot put in school history as EWU wraps-up action at the Oregon Relays
Elise Jepsen qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships as the Eastern Washington University track and field team competed Saturday (May 1) at the Oregon Relays in Eugene, Ore.
Jepsen had a mark of 5-3 3/4 in the high jump to qualify for the BSC Championships in Ogden, Utah, on May 12-16. Eastern athletes have now met the qualifying standards 54 times for the Big Sky Conference Championships. The list includes 31 for the men and 23 for the women.
Erica Chaney had a personal-best shot put of 49-4 1/4 to win the event and now rank second in school history. The school-record throw of 50-11 was set by Nancy Kuiper in 1991. Chaney had already qualified for the conference championships earlier this season.
Jordan Curnutt had a personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.67. He already qualified for the league championships earlier this season.
The Eagles will compete at the Vandal Jamboree on May 7-8 in Moscow, Idaho, before competing at the Big Sky Conference Championships on May 12-15 in Ogden, Utah.
