36 Selected to Spring All-Academic Team
A total of 36 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the 2012 spring quarter. Of the total, 14 were from the women's outdoor track and field team, 13 from the men's outdoor squad, four from men's tennis, three from women's golf and two from women's tennis.

Hill Receives USATF Mentorship for Olympic Trials
Eastern Washington University assistant track and field coach Jonathan Hill will represent EWU at the 2012 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., after receiving a mentorship grant from USA Track and Field (USATF). Hill is one of seven coaches to be selected by that governing body, and will be in Eugene from June 22-25.

Davis and King Show Improvement in Final Meet
Seniors Shene Davis and Kyle King may not have topped off their Eastern Washington University track and field careers by advancing to nationals, but they definitely did not disappoint. Both Davis (triple jump) and King (5,000), ranked 48th and 46th in their events, respectively, improved greatly at the NCAA Outdoor Preliminaries in Austin, Texas.

Keisa Monterola hit a mark of 13-8 1/4 in the pole vault at the NCAA Preliminaries in Austin, Texas, on Friday (May 25) to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9. Monterola’s vaulting teammate Robin Taylor was also at the meet, but her jump of 12-4 1/2 wasn’t enough to advance.

The graduate from Selah High School broke the school record in the triple jump, posting a distance of 40-6 1/4 at the 2012 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships in Bozeman, Mont. Davis finished second in the event, earning her all-conference honors. The record was originally set last season by Morena Mannucci with a distance of 39-7.

Pat Whitehill Celebration of Life Takes Place on June 3
A “Celebration of Life” for Eastern Washington University Athletics Hall of Fame member Pat Whitehill will take place on Sunday, June 3 at 1 p.m. at the Showalter Auditorium on the EWU campus in Cheney, Wash. Whitehill passed away on Feb. 25 at the age of 82. The 1951 Eastern graduate was a standout in men’s basketball and track and field for Eastern, then spent 30 years as a member of EWU’s physical education department.

This week marks a big test for the Eagles, as the team heads down to California for two separate meets. First, the Eagles are sending 16 athletes to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. Sac Relays. Among the new athletes is the Venezuelan national record-holder in the pole vault, Keisa Monterola, and well-rounded heptathlete Katrina Chamberlain. The other signees are recruits from the state of Washington, with one coming from Nevada.
