All-Big Sky Accolades: 2011 Indoor: Shot Put, 3rd.

2011-12: Indoor: He placed eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 57-1 1/2 at the BSC Indoor Championships. Buchanan also placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 49-11 3/4. His weight throw of 53-9 at the UW Husky Classic was a season best. Outdoor: He placed seventh at the BSC Outdoor Championships with a personal-best hammer throw of 177-6 and placed 13th in the shot put. His season best of 51-5 in the shot put came at the Montana Al Manuel Invite.

2010-11: Indoor: As a freshman, Buchanan placed third at the BSC Indoor Championships in the shot put with an indoor season-best throw of 52-6. At the 2011 Bronco Open, Buchanan had a season best of 52-6 in the weight throw. Outdoor: He took fifth at the BSC Outdoor Championships in the shot put with a toss of 52-7. In the discus throw, Buchanan had a season-best throw of 149-7 at the WAR 4. He threw his personal best of 54-1 1/4 in the shot put at the Beach Invitational, placing seventh overall. Buchanan was selected to winter and spring Big Sky All-Academic teams.

2009-10: Redshirted.

High School: Buchanan finished first in the shot put with a mark of 60-1 3/4 at the WIAA 2A Championships and second in the discus with a throw of 159-1. He was first in both the shot put (59-6 1/2) and the discus (160-9) at the CWAC District Meet. As a junior, Buchanan finished first in the shot put with a mark of 55-10 and fourth in the discus with a toss of 152-11 at the State 2A Championships. His career-best throw in the shot put of 59-11 and in the discus of 172-6 came during his senior year.
