Both the men’s and women’s track and field squads are honored by the USTFCCCA for team GPAs of 3.0 and higher
Capping a week of academic honors for the Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s track and field programs, both the men and the women were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on its list of NCAA Division I Allâ€ÂÂAcademic Track & Field Teams for the 2011-12 school year.
A total of 85 male institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team grade point average of 3.00 or better, and 171 made the women’s list. Eastern’s men had a 3.12 team GPA, while the women were higher at 3.22.
The head coach of Eastern’s men’s team is Stan Kerr and the women are led by Marcia Mecklenburg. They were assisted in the 2011-12 school year by Chris Zeller, Jonathan Hill, Eric Allison and Chris Hammer.
The All-Academic teams were announced on Thursday (July 26), with five Eastern student-athletes selected the previous two days to the USTFCCCA’s All-Academic squad for individuals. Michelle Coombs and Shene Davis were among the 676 female student-athletes representing 171 NCAA Division I institutions. A total of 431 student-athletes representing 148 institutions were on the men’s squad, including Eastern’s Kyle King, Kersee Lind and Brad Wall.
