Eugene, Ore. – Rising sophomore Paula Gil-Echevarria ran a personal best 10:17.17 in the steeplechase to qualify for the finals at the IAAF World Junior Championships Thursday, July 24.
Representing her native Spain at this year's championships, Gil-Echevarria's mark of 10:17.17 in the steeplechase is the second-fastest time in Spanish under-20 history. She also bested her previous top personal mark of 10:29.03 by more than 11 seconds.
The time is also unofficially the second-fastest time in EWU history behind teammate Catie Arrigoni (10:14.99), besting teammate Katie Mahoney (10:17.34).
Gil-Echevarria will race in the finals of the steeplechase Saturday night at Oregon's Hayward Field. Fans can follow along here.
