Kirk Earlywine on Griffin: “With a year under his belt, Laron is significantly better than he was last year. He had a great of-season and I think it will translate to the floor this season. Laron provides us length and athletic ability and has an uncanny way of sniffing out rebounds and making baskets. He’s not a great shooter yet, but he can make a shot. He’s not a great post-up player, but he can score in there. And at the end of the game he has his points and rebounds. So in addition to his length and athletic ability, his production will really help us.”

2009:10: He made two starts in his debut season at Eastern, including one non-conference game against Walla Walla (12/1/09) and a league game versus Northern Colorado (1/16/10). Griffin averaged 4.8 points and 3.8 rebounds overall, and 5.4 and 4.2, respectively, in the Big Sky on 47 percent shooting from the field. He led the team in rebounding three times, including two of EWU’s last six games. Griffin scored in double figures three times, including a season-high 11 versus Weber State (1/23/10). His best rebounding performances were seven against Boise State (11/24/09) and Texas Arlington (11/21/09). He also had highs of three assists against Whitman (11/17/09) and three steals versus Weber State (2/26/10). He led Eastern in blocked shots on eight occasions, finishing the season with 19 including a season-high of two in five games.

Junior College: Played the 2007-08 season at Los Angeles Southwest College where he played alongside his Eastern teammate Tremayne Johnson. He did not play in 2008-09.

High School: Graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles in 2007. He averaged 17.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game his senior season as his school finished 7-16 overall and 3-9 in the Coliseum League. He also averaged 2.2 blocked shots, 1.0 assists and 0.7 steals. He scored in double figures in all but two games, and had 20 or more on eight occasions. His high game was 30 in a 74-61 victory over Locke in which he made 22-of-24 free throws. For the season he made 42 percent of his field goals (101-of-241) and 70 percent of his free throws (114-of-163). As a junior he averaged 9.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals.
