2011: Listed as a backup at left cornerback on preseason depth chart. In four spring scrimmages, he had nine tackles, two interceptions and one pass broken up. He returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown to help the Red defeat the White 28-14 in EWU’s Red-White Spring Game.

2010: Played 13 games, mostly on special teams, and saw some action as a cornerback. He had a season-high two tackles and forced a fumble against Montana (9/18/10) in a 36-27 victory in the first game on EWU’s red Sprinturf surface at Roos Field. He helped the Eagle defense rank first nationally in interceptions (total of 26) and turnovers gained (47), and finish sixth nationally in red zone defense, as it allowed just 38 scores in 58 opponent trips inside the Eagle 20-yard line.

2009: Redshirted.

HS: Graduated from Mount Tahoma HS in 2009. Named by the Seattle Times as a “White Chip” selection as one of the top 100 prospects in the state of Washington. Was selected by the Tacoma News Tribune to its All-Area team as a running back. Baines also earned first-team All-Narrows League honors as a senior. In addition, he was a member of Ron Siegel’s 31-member preseason All-State squad. He started the 2008 season against Shelton with 421 rushing yards – the sixth-highest single game total in state history – and five touchdowns. He finished the year with 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns on 199 carries (7.2 per carry). As a junior, he accounted for 2,600 yards and 25 touchdowns and was named the Narrows League Bay Division Offensive MVP. Mt. Tahoma was 4-6 his senior season and 3-7 in 2007. His EWU teammate Gabriel Jackson (’06) also attended Mount Tahoma.
