Video Scoreboards to be Latest Upgrade at EWU’s Roos Field and Reese Court
Following up on the momentum created with the installation of red synthetic turf at Roos Field and the 2011 National Championship, Eastern Washington University is now taking steps to replace the 23-year-old Roos Field scoreboard with a new video scoreboard that will enhance the game-day experience for students, fans and athletes.

2010 FCS Champs & 2011 Runner-Up to Start Home and Home Series
Two teams who have reached the NCAA Division I Football Championship game the past two seasons will start a home-and-home series beginning in the 2013 campaign. Eastern Washington, the 2010 champs in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, will travel to Huntsville, Texas, to play Sam Houston State on Sept. 28, 2013. The Bearkats, who lost to North Dakota State 17-6 in last year’s FCS title game, will play in Cheney at Roos Field on Sept. 13, 2014.

Game Times Set for 2012 Season
Game times for Eastern Washington University’s home football games this fall have been finalized, Eastern athletic director Bill Chaves has announced. Season tickets, including admission to all five home games, are being sold for as low as $45. Kyle Padron Officially Joins Eagle Football Program
It’s official – Kyle Padron will become a member of the Eastern Washington University football team in the 2012 season. Following in the footsteps of EWU’s reigning Walter Payton Award winner Bo Levi Mitchell, Padron (pronounced “puh-DRONE”) is transferring from Southern Methodist University where he passed for 5,902 yards and 41 touchdowns in his 24-game career.

For awhile, it didn’t look like the Red needed a 19-point head start. When there is a score on the scoreboard, it’s game on. Eastern Washington University’s offense will be taking on the defense in this Saturday’s Red-White Spring Football Game, which wraps-up four weeks of spring practices for the Eagles. The game begins at 2:06 p.m. Pacific time at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash., and precedes the 31st-Annual Orland Killin Dinner, Dance and Auction at EWU.

Four Former Eagles Take Part in Pro Day Drills
A quartet of former Eastern Washington University football players went through a series of physical tests in front of professional scouts at EWU’s Pro Day on March 7 at the Spokane Shock practice facility in Spokane, Wash. Safety Matt Johnson, quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, cornerback Alden Gibbs and defensive tackle Renard Williams are Eastern’s pro football hopefuls after concluding their careers with the Eagles in 2011.

Wide Receiver Tyler Hart Is Granted Sixth Year
Head coach Beau Baldwin would like to see three balls in the air at a time to provide enough receptions to go around. His already impressive Eastern Washington University wide receiver corp only got stronger when Tyler Hart was notified recently by the NCAA that he was granted a sixth year to complete his football eligibility at Eastern after having two seasons shortened because of injuries.

Walter Payton Award recipient Bo Levi Mitchell was honored as Amateur Male Athlete of the Year by the Inland Northwest Sportswriters and Broadcasters (SWABS) in 2011 awards presented in conjunction with the annual Inland Northwest Sports Awards Luncheon in Spokane, Wash., on Feb. 15.

Linebacker Zach Johnson Will Be Back for 2012 Season
The NCAA provided Eastern Washington University and Zach Johnson some good news on Monday (Feb. 6). Eastern head football coach Beau Baldwin said that Johnson’s appeal to grant him a sixth year to complete his four years of eligibility has been approved as the result of decisions made since last season by the Big Sky Conference and the NCAA.

2012 SIGNING DAY - Eagles Sign 20 to Letters of Intent
Beau replaced a Bo with a “Bowe” at quarterback. And the Eagles replaced their National Championship trophy with a “Kupp” with Eastern and NFL bloodlines. In all, Eastern Washington University head coach Beau Baldwin announced Wednesday (Feb. 1) a group of 20 high school players who signed letters of intent to attend EWU and play for the Eagles next fall.

Moetului, Beaumonte and Edwards Earn Team Player of the Year Honors
Senior Darriell Beaumonte was a repeat selection to join senior defensive tackle Charles “Dexter” Moetului and junior wide receiver Nicholas Edwards as Eastern Washington University’s Players of the Year from the 2011 football season at the Eagle Football Awards Banquet on Jan. 29. The awards were selected upon by their teammates.

2011 Football Season Recap
The 2011 season ended on a high note for the Eastern Washington University football team. Just not quite as high as the year before. Finishing the regular season 6-5, the defending NCAA Division I Champions, the Eagles overcame a rash of injuries to win six of their last seven games after a 0-4 start.

54 Selected to Fall All-Academic Team
A total of 54 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for fall quarter 2011. Of the total, 18 were from women's soccer, 16 from football, 10 from volleyball, seven from women's cross country and three from men's cross country.

Eastern’s 1997 Football Team to Be Inducted This Fall
The 2010 team finished what the 1997 team started. Eastern Washington University’s 1997 football team will be inducted into the Eastern Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 6, 2012, to help celebrate the team’s 12-2 finish and appearance in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) “Final Four. Despite the valiant efforts of Cliff Colimon and his teammates, a sweep just wasn’t in the cards. The Sports Network announced Thursday (Dec. 1) that the senior quarterback from Katy, Texas, is one of three finalists for the Walter Payton Award presented to the top player in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision.

Leave it to the Eastern Washington University football team to find its way to a heart-stopping victory. A touchdown pass by wide receiver Greg Herd sparked Eastern Washington to scores on three plays in the second and third overtimes as the Eagles prevailed 53-51 over future Big Sky Conference member Cal Poly 35-28 Saturday (Nov. 12) in a non-league football game at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

Minnerly Repeats on District VIII All-Academic Squad
Eastern Washington University junior safety Jeff Minnerly is a repeat selection on the Capital One Academic All-District VIII squad as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA). Minnerly is a 2008 graduate of Ferris High School in Spokane, Wash., and currently has a 3.83 grade point average as a finance major.

Matt Johnson Suffers Same Fate as His Twin
Eastern Washington University’s injury woes in the 2011 football season have been painful enough to witness let alone play with, and finally, the pain became too much for All-America strong safety Matt Johnson to cope with. Playing with a painful biceps tendon injury since the second game of the season, Johnson will undergo surgery next week as his illustrious 45-game career will come to a premature ending, Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin announced Wednesday (Oct. 19).

Mitchell Repeats as Big Sky Offensive POW
Only once has Bo Levi Mitchell been as efficient. Earning his second-straight Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor, the senior quarterback had an even 400 passing yards in EWU’s 48-27 win over Northern Colorado on Oct. 15., finishing with three touchdowns through the air and one on the ground.

Mitchell and Company Lead Eagles Past Northern Colorado, 48-27
The winless Bears wouldn’t go away quietly. But a second-quarter burst and another in the second half made the difference for Eastern Washington University as it pulled away for a 48-27 victory over Northern Colorado in a Big Sky Conference football game Saturday (Oct. 15) at Roos Field in EWU’s 85th annual Homecoming Game in front of a sold-out crowd of 8,742.

The Bears are a hungry team. But the Eastern Washington University football team doesn’t want to be the first feast of the season for Northern Colorado when the Bears visit Roos Field Saturday (Oct. 15) for EWU’s 85th annual Homecoming Game. Kickoff on the red Sprinturf surface at “The Inferno” is 4:05 p.m. Pacific time in a Homecoming game with the slogan “Greatest Show on Turf.”

Eastern Wins Turnover Battle 4-0 to Defeat Lumberjacks 36-28
Finally, the Eastern Washington University football team won the turnover battle – and has a win to show for it. The Eagles forced four Northern Arizona turnovers and senior quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell passed for three touchdowns and rushed for another as EWU defeated NAU 36-28 Saturday (Oct. 8) in a Big Sky Conference game at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Mitchell and Kellerman Selected as Scholar-Athletes of the Month
Senior quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell and junior outside hitter Cora Kellerman have been tabbed as the October Scholar-Athletes of the Month, announced Thursday (Oct. 6) by the Eastern Washington University Athletic Department. This award recognizes the athletic and academic success of student-athletes, based primarily on performances turned in during the month prior.

What the Eastern Washington University football team overcame last week, it will have to overcome even more this week. The injury-riddled Eagles picked up their first win of the season last week with a gut-check 27-21 victory over Weber State, but now look for their first road victory when EWU plays at a well-rested Northern Arizona team this Saturday (Oct. 8).

Overcoming Adversity, Eagles Finally Notch a Win
Apparently, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Overcoming a rash of injuries and the loss of an assistant coach this week, the Eastern Washington University football team notched its first victory of the season by holding off Weber State 27-21 Saturday (Oct. 1) in a Big Sky Conference game at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash.

Linebacker Zach Johnson to Miss Rest of the Season with Recurring Knee Injury
For the second time in three seasons, Eastern Washington University linebacker Zach Johnson will have a season cut short because of the same knee injury, Eastern head football coach Beau Baldwin announced on Tuesday (Sept. 27). The senior co-captain has been playing this season with a chronic tear in his left patellar tendon and will have surgery as early as this Thursday.

No. 21 Eastern Loses First Game at The Inferno in 36-21 Setback to Fourth-Ranked Bobcats
The magic carpet wasn’t magic at all. In fact, for the Eagle offensive line, it was downright unlucky. Fourth-ranked Montana State out-gained No. 21 Eastern Washington University 129-56 in the fourth quarter and defeated the still winless Eagles 36-21 Saturday (Sept. 24) in a Big Sky Conference showdown at sold-out Roos Field in Cheney, Wash.

It’s Eastern’s turn for a little revenge. A road breakthrough just wasn’t in the works for the Eastern Washington University football team. Falling on the road for the third time in as many weeks, Eastern Washington fell to Montana 17-14 Saturday (Sept. 17) in a defensive battle in the Big Sky Conference opener for both schools at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, Mont.

A chance for the Eagles to win their first game of the season will be on the line this Saturday (Sept. 17) in Missoula, Mont., as Eastern Washington University takes on Montana in the Big Sky Conference opener for both schools. Eagles Help Record-Breaking Food Drive
A record-breaking Eastern Washington University Food Drive ended recently with 5,352 pounds of food and $13,734.32 in cash donated to local charities and schools. And members of the Eastern football team were on hand on Sept. 8 when the food was transferred from EWU’s campus to the Cheney Food Bank.

It was another thrilling comeback by the Eastern Washington University football team. But for the second-straight week, it was only a comeback attempt. Falling behind 21-0 but rallying late, top-ranked Eastern Washington came up short in the big play department and fell to un-ranked South Dakota 30-17 Saturday (Sept. 10) at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.

For all the good karma that followed Eastern Washington University to the NCAA Division I Football Championship in 2010, the Eagles needed just a tad bit more last week. This Saturday, it will be all about living up to expectations for top-ranked EWU. One big play short of being 1-0, the Eagles play fellow 0-1 NCAA Football Championship Subdivision foe South Dakota this Saturday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, N.D. Near-Miss Versus Huskies Helps Eastern Increase Votes in Sports Network Poll
Despite coming one play away from an upset of epic proportions, the Eastern Washington University football team still increased its respect by voters and maintained its No. 1 ranking in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25 released on Monday (Sept. 5). Eastern lost to Washington of the Pac-12 Conference 30-27 last Saturday despite a dominating 504-250 advantage in total offense.

Brent Wooten, a standout football player for the University of Washington who went on to become head coach at Eastern Washington University, passed away on Monday (Aug. 29). He was 72. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, Sept. 9 from 2-6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Cheney, Wash.

Eastern Edges Montana State as BSC Preseason Pick to Defend Championship
If coaches and media are correct, Eastern Washington University’s football home opener with Montana State on Sept. 24 will go a long way to decide the 2011 Big Sky Conference Championship. In narrow balloting decided by just a few votes in both polls, the Eagles edged Montana State as the preseason pick by both the coaches and the media to win the Big Sky title, the league office announced Tuesday (July 19).
