Eagles Garner More Preseason Accolades

With a total of 15 players now honored, Forgette and Hamlin earn additional preseason All-America recognition

Bringing the total number of Eagles honored in the preseason to 15, several Eastern Washington University football players were honored on preseason All-America lists, All-Big Sky Conference teams and positional rankings released recently by NCAA Football Championships Subdivision media outlets.

Senior offensive guard Steven Forgette and senior linebacker Ronnie Hamlin have received additional preseason All-America accolades, earning second team honors from philsteele.com. Previously, they were selected to The Sports Network Preseason All-America squad and Hamlin is also on the Sport Network’s Watch List for the Buchanan Award given to the top defensive player in FCS.

Forgette, who was the second-best offensive guard in FCS in positional rankings selected by Josh Buchanan for philsteele.com, also earned first team All-Big Sky honors on preseason squads selected by philsteele.com and collegesportsmadness.com. Hamlin was a first team All-BSC selection on both lists as well, and was selected by Buchanan as the eight-best linebacker.

Other Eastern players selected on the All-Big Sky first team by Phil Steele were senior cornerback T.J. Lee III and senior safety Allen Brown, and senior defensive tackle Andru Pulu was on the second team. Those also honored by College Sports Madness include senior wide receiver Ashton Clark and Lee on the first team; sophomore quarterback Vernon Adams, senior center Ashton Miller, Pulu and Brown on the second team; and junior safety Tevin McDonald and junior punter Jake Miller on the third team.

In addition, College Sports Madness selected EWU head coach Beau Baldwin as its Preseason Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year.

Besides Forgette, others listed in the FCS positional rankings include safety Tevin McDonald (7th), punter Jake Miller (7th), Hamlin (8th), kick returner Shaquille Hill (20th), Ashton Miller (14th), Lee (11th), Brown (12th), Pulu (16th), defensive tackle Dylan Zylstra (26th), Adams (32nd), cornerback Ronald Baines (39th), running back Demitrius Bronson (41st) and Clark (47th).
