After beginning the 2009-10 dual-match season with a 7-0 victory over Lewis-Clark State on Jan. 31, the Eastern Washington University men's tennis team will take on local rivals Whitworth on Wednesday (Feb. 3) and Gonzaga on Sunday (Feb. 7) this week in Spokane.
The match against the Pirates is scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m. on the Whitworth campus and the contest with the Bulldogs will get started at 6 p.m. at the Spokane Racquet Club.
The Pirates are 0-2 after losing a double-header to Lewis-Clark State College on Jan. 23, the same team Eastern swept 7-0 in their season opener. The Bulldogs are 1-2 on the season and most recently fell 6-1 to Idaho on Jan. 31.
First time: Eagles freshmen Fernando Mussolini, Kyle Koetje, and Flavio Malagutti picked up their first singles wins of their career Jan. 31 against Lewis-Clark State.
Mussolini, playing as the No. 3 singles player, defeated Oliver Sindayigaya by the score of 6-3, 7-5. He also teamed-up with partner Julian Sanchez to earn a doubles victory.
Stefan Simikic picked up his first singles victory as an Eagle. Simikic transferred from Boise State, where he posted a 1-2 singles record last season in limited action.
