Cheney, Wash. – The Eastern Washington men's tennis team opened its Fall season this weekend, hosting the annual EWU Classic that saw the squad turn in a number of solid performances.
Sophomore Eduardo Bringold won his opening match in the top flight Friday, Sept. 27, defeating Andres Bustanti of Lewis-Clark State in straight sets (6-3, 6-1). He was then bested by Jose Bendeck of Idaho in the quarterfinals later that day.
Sophomore Luke Thompson secured an opening-round win over Zach Drost of Montana – 6-2, 6-0 – then put up a fight against Kent Andreasan of Portland in a quarterfinal match, taking the first set before dropping a tough tiebreaker.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, the duo of Bringold and freshman Wacil Bendjelti won their first doubles match, upending Gonzaga's Mijatovic and Schoebel, 8-5.
The Eagles continue their season next weekend at the Boise State Classic in Boise, Idaho. The three-day tournament begins Friday, Oct. 4.
