The Eastern Washington University men's tennis team topped visiting UC Davis on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 3), 5-2, to win its third straight match. The Eagles (3-2) went up, 4-1, over the Aggies (0-4) and cruised from there. Pannhara Mam and Patrick Millican earned wins in both singles and doubles play.

Eastern grabbed control of the match by taking the doubles point with wins in the first two contests to complete play. First off the courts were EWU's No. 1 tandem of Mam and Kyle Schraeder, after they completed an 8-2 win over UC Davis' Daniel Elefant and Jayce Fitch. Eastern's No. 3 duo of Jonathan Davis and Millican were next, and they toppled Casey McMakin and Michael Reiser, 8-4.

Mam kept his quick work going when he settled in singles action, defeating Henri Landes in quick fashion, 6-1, 6-3, on the first court. After Schraeder fell to Fitch, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2, the Eagles were able to claim the next two matches to secure the team win.

On the fourth court, Millican defeated Elefant, 6-3, 6-4, and Eastern's No. 3 player, Daniel Pez, clinched the win with an impressive 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 victory over Justin Garcia.

Playing his first intercollegiate singles match for the Eagles, Nico Riego de Dios fell on court five, 6-1, 6-4, to Reiser, while Brian Garfield completed the day's play with a clutch 6-3, 4-6, (10-6) defeat of Tyler Lee.

The Eagles next return to play with an all-important Big Sky Conference match against Sacramento State. First serve for the contest to be played in Cheney is set for 1 p.m. next Saturday (Feb. 10). The Eagles are 1-0 in Big Sky play after winning at Northern Colorado, 7-0, last Saturday (Jan. 27).

The Hornets finished tied for first in last year's final regular-season standings with a 5-1 league mark and are scheduled to start their 2007 campaign today at Oregon. Sacramento State will play its second contest of the season against the Eagles.
