Jonathan Davis and Pannhara Mam of the Eastern Washington University men's tennis team claimed the doubles title at the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Cup in Portland, Ore., on Sunday (Sept. 30). That wrapped up three days of play at the tournament for the Eagles.
Davis and Mam defeated Portland's duo of Joel Kincaid and Evan Schleining 8-3 in the final.
Also playing well was the doubles team of Art Karas and Nico Riego de Dios, who advanced to the semifinals of the tournament before falling. They toppled the No. 4 seed in the quarterfinal round, Gonzaga's Conor Feeney and Cooper Fratt, by an 8-6 score.
Kyle Cruzat fell in his Flight B singles semifinal tilt to Gonzaga's Zack Radetzky 6-1, 6-4.
"It was an impressive day for the Eagles, having swept Portland's No. 1, 2 and 3 doubles teams (throughout the weekend)," interim head coach Darren Haworth said. "It was a great start to the season."
Next up for Eastern is the GU/EWU Classic, which will take place in Spokane from Friday-Sunday (Oct. 5-7).
