Karas Named Big Sky Player of the Week

April 22, 2008

Art Karas of the Eastern Washington University men's tennis team was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week after he went a perfect 2-0 in singles and doubles play over the weekend, sweeping each of his singles contests in straight sets.

He helped the Eagles to 6-1 victories over Weber State and Montana, which helped EWU to a second-place finish in the Big Sky and the second seed at this weekend's Big Sky Championship. Eastern Washington moved to 16-6, 7-1 in Big Sky Conference play, and this year's squad now owns school records for wins, conference wins and winning percentage (since joining NCAA Division I in 1984).

Karas teamed with previous winner Nico Riego de Dios for the doubles wins. Riego de Dios earned Big Sky POW accolades on April 8 after a perfect week of his own.

Eastern Washington will take on an opponent to be determined at 2 p.m. on Saturday (April 26) in a Big Sky semifinal contest in Gold River, Calif.
