Erik Rasmussen is entering his third season as EWU's jumps and combined-events coach. He has a Level I USATF coaching certification and a Level II certification in jumps.

Since joining the Eastern coaching staff in September of 2012, seven athletes have earned All-Big Sky honors in jumping events, including two Big Sky Champions, and have combined for 14 Eastern top ten all-time marks.

Rasmussen was a volunteer assistant pole vault coach at Brigham Young University from 2008-2012. During his time in Provo, Utah, he coached three First-Team All-Americans and 12 NCAA Prelminary Round qualifiers. He also coached seven individual athletes to 15 total appearances at the NCAA National Championship meet. During the 2011 indoor season, Rasmussen coached four athletes who qualified for the NCAA National Championships.

From 1998 to 2003, Rasmussen competed in the pole vault and decathlon for the BYU Cougars and was selected as a member of the All-MWC team. He had personal-bests of 17-4 1/2 in the pole vault, 6,319 points in the decathlon and 5,244 in the indoor heptathlon.

Rasmussen is a native of Modesto, Calif. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rome, Italy. He graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and is in the process of attaining his master’s degree in exercise science.

He has a wife Nicole, who also competed for the BYU track team. They have two children -- daughter Tate who was born in May of 2012 and a son Bo, born in February 2015.
