Four Eagles Qualify for the Big Sky Championships

Four Eagles met the automatic qualifying standard for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships as the Eastern Washington University track and field teams competed Saturday (Jan. 31) in Pullman, Wash., at the Cougar Indoor Invitational.

In the men's dual-meet scoring, EWU beat Sacramento State (67-50), Utah State (69-57) and Idaho (69-52), and lost to Washington State (48-74). The women lost to WSU (28-93), Utah State (36-85), Sac St. (34-88) and Idaho (59-62).

On the men's side, Kersee Lind qualified for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships with 4,910 points in the men's heptathlon. He is just 41 points shy of Eastern's school record set by Matt Ludwigson in 2007 of 4,951.

Armand Hopkins qualified for the BSC Championships in both the triple jump and long jump. He finished third in both events with marks of 46-7 1/2 in the triple jump to rank 10th on Eastern's all-time best list and 22-10 in the long jump.

Kurt Williams qualified for the conference championships in the long jump with a mark of 23-5 1/2 to finish second.

Paul Limpf qualified for the BSC Championships in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:29.12 to win that event. He was just eight seconds behind his career best set in 2007 with a time of 8:21.0 to rank third on Eastern's all-time best list.

Already qualifying for conference championships at a previous meet, Stephen Praast improved his mark in the high jump to 6-8 1/4 to finish fourth at the meet.

On the women's side, Brianna Okoro qualified for the BSC Championships in the high jump with a mark of 5-4 1/2. She also finished fourth in the women's pentathlon with 2,961 points.

Shene Davis qualified for the conference championships in the 60 meters with a time of 7.86 to rank sixth on Eastern's all-time best list. In addition, she finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 38-3 1/2 to rank third on Eastern's all-time best list.

Krystal Deyo, who already qualified for the conference championships, finished fourth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.75.

The Eagles will compete next weekend in Moscow, Idaho at the Vandal Indoor (Feb. 6) and the Runner's Soul Open (Feb. 7).
