Eagles Beat Montana in Indoor Dual Meet

Eastern Washington University's track and field team won men's and women's dual meets over Montana at the EWU Candy Cane Invitational in Cheney, Wash., on Dec.6.

Eleven EWU athletes qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships in the early-season meet taking place at Thorpe Fieldhouse on the EWU campus. On the men's side, the Eagles beat Montana 46-40 and the women won 48-37.

Four EWU athletes qualified for the BSC Championships in the triple jump, taking first through fourth place. Cameron Moore won the event with a mark of 48-4 1/2 and Armand Hopkins was second with a jump of 47-7 3/4. Kurt Williams, who had a mark of 46-8 1/4, finished third while Levi Knudson was fourth with a jump of 45-3.

Hopkins also finished first in the long jump and qualified for the championships with a mark of 22-10 1/2.

Stephen Praast and Adam Stewart finished 1-2, respectively, in the high jump, to qualify for the BSC Championships. Both had a mark of 6-7.

Chad Butorac won the 55 meters with a time of 6.56 to qualify for the championships.

On the women's side, Krystal Deyo finished first in the 55 meters (7.11) and the long jump (18-3 1/4) to qualify for the Big Sky Conference Championships.

Shene Davis finished second in the 55 meters (7.18) and won the triple jump (38-3 1/4) to qualify for the conference championships.

Sophia Malamura won the shot put and qualified for the BSC Championships in the shot put with a mark of 45-3.

In the women's weight throw, Nicole Luckenbach qualified for the BSC Championships with a mark of 55-8 1/4.

The Eagles will have the rest of the month off before heading to Seattle, Wash., to compete at the UW Indoor Preview on Jan. 17.
