Top performers

David Paul (Sr., Yelm, Wash. - Yelm HS '02)
Paul is ranked 11th in NCAA Division I this week in the hammer, and also ranks 46th in the shot put and 25th in the discus. At the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational (April 27-28) Paul had a winning throw of 185-0, which broke his own personal record of 179-6 set last year, and ranks second in school history. He is now ranked 10th in Big Sky Conference history and is less than nine feet behind Brad Boland's school-record throw of 193-4 1/2 in 1980. He also placed first in the shot put (53-5 3/4) and was second in the hammer (210-0) as he earned Big Sky Conference Field Athlete of the week for the third time this season.
He broke his own school record at the 36th Annual Pelluer Invitational (April 6) in the hammer throw with a throw of 216-11. His previous record was 214-2 set at the Al Manual Invitational (March 31). He owns the second-best hammer throw in Big Sky Conference history, ranking only behind the mark of 219-8 set by Karim Chester of Northern Arizona in 2005. He has qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships (May 25-26, Eugene, Ore.) in the hammer, shot put and discus. Paul also threw 56-10 1/4 in the shot put on March 31 that is the fourth best mark all-time in school history.
Paul earned Big Sky Conference Field Athlete of the Meet at the Big Sky Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24 when he threw the 35-pound weight throw 69-8 1/2 -- the third highest mark in conference history. The 2002 graduate of Yelm High School (Wash.), has made huge strides since his freshman season. He finished second as a junior in the weight throw and had a season best of 65-5 1/2. As a sophomore, he had a best of 57-0 1/4 and as a freshman his best was 45-8. In the hammer, he had a school-record toss of 204-5 as a junior last season. His best as a sophomore was 188-1 and as a freshman in 2003 he had a best mark of 147-11.

Curtis Suver (Sr., Maple Valley, Wash. - Tahoma HS '04 & Jamestown College N.D.)
Curtis Suver qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships in the 1500 with a winning time of 3:51.44, which ranks him 10th in school history, at the Duane Hartman Invitational (April 28). He ran a personal best 14:24.63 in the 5,000 at the Oregon Invitational (April 21). His time qualified him for the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships and ranks him fourth all-time at Eastern.

Camille Moseley (Sr., Ellensburg, Wash. - Kittias HS '03)
Senior Camille Moseley qualified for the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in the 800 after placing second at the Duane Hartman Invitational (April 28) with a time of 2:15.48, which places her seventh all-time in school history. Moseley set a personal record in the 1500 with a time of 4:36.87 at the Oregon Invitational (April 21) to place second out of 22 runners and rank fourth all-time in Eastern history. Moseley also set a personal record in the 5,000 at Oregon, with a 17:04.17 to rank third in school history. She already qualified for the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in both events at the 36th Annual Pelluer Invitational (April 6).

Sarah Hegna (Sr., Arlington, Wash. - Arlington HS '03)
Hegna is ranked 32nd in NCAA Division I this week in the pole vault after a personal best of 12-11 1/2 to place second at the Duane Hartmand Invitational (April 28). She now ranks second in school history, and is less than three inches behind the school record of 13-2 1/4 set by Emily Roberts in 2003. Hegna qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships in the pole vault with a vault of 12-6 at the 36th Annual Pelluer Invitational (April 6). She has also qualified for the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships.

Erika Kirley-Price (Jr., Kennewick, Wash. - Kennewick HS '03)
Kirley-Price finished third in the hammer throw (156-3) and fourth in the discus (134-3) at the Duane Hartman Invitational in Spokane, Wash. (April 28).

Carolee Gutierrez (Sr., Newport, Wash. - Newport HS '02)
Gutierrez had a throw of 150-2 in the discus to place her sixth all-time on Eastern's best list at the Asics / Steve Scott Invitational (April 27-28). Gutierrez is ranked 13th in NCAA Division I this week in the javelin (167-9). She placed first in all four of her events at the 36th Annual Pelluer Invitational. She had a personal best of 45-6 1/4 in the shot put to rank her fourth on Eastern's all-time best list. She also won the hammer (164-6) and javelin (155-10). At the Al Manual Invitational, Gutierrez qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships (Eugene, Ore., May 25-26) in the javelin with a throw of 167-9, a new Big Sky Conference and school record. The throw broke her previous personal best of 156-6 set in 2005, and the old BSC and school record of 165-8 set by Eastern's Stephanie Ulmer last season. She has qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships (Pocatello, Idaho, May 10-12) in the shot put, javelin, discus and hammer throw.

Bonnie Millard (So., Priest River, Idaho - Priest River HS `05)
Millard had a personal best in the discus at the Duane Hartman Invitational (April 28) with a throw of 149-8. The throw places her seventh all-time at Eastern.

Sarah Frey (So., Olympia, Wash. - Olympia HS '05)
At the Brutus Hamilton Invitational (April 14), Sarah Frey had a personal best 58.17 in the 400 to finish fifth and qualify for the Big Sky Championships.

Steve Keith (Sr., Vancouver, Wash. - Skyview HS '03)
Steve Keith placed first in both the 100 (11.10) and the 200 (22.72) at the Sam Adams Invitational (April 14).

Chad Chambers (Sr., Longview, Wash. - R.A Long HS '02 & Clark College)
Chambers had a jump of 6-6 3/4 at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational (April 14). He had the same jump of 6-6 3/4 at the 36th Annual Pelluer Invitational (April 6) to qualify for the Big Sky Championships.

Chad Butorac (So., Northport, Wash. - Northport HS '05)
At the 36th Annual Pelluer Invitational, Butorac qualified for the Big Sky Championships in the 400 with a time of 48.20. He also qualified in the 200 (21.82) and 100 (10.88) at the Al Manual Invitational (March 31).

Mattie Bridgmon (Jr., Laramie, Wyo. - Laramie HS '05)
Bridgmon qualified for the Big Sky Championships in the 5000 with a time of 17:59.0 at the Al Manual Invitational (March 31) to rank fifth all-time in school history.

Krystal Deyo (Fr., Castle Rock, Wash. - Castle Rock HS '06)
Krystal Deyo finished first in her first outdoor meet as an Eagle in the 100 with a time of 12.62 in the finals at the Dusty Lane Invitational on March 17. Deyo also finished third in the 200 with a time of 26.70.

Cody Irby (So., Otis Orchards, Wash. - East Valley HS '05)
In the hammer throw, Irby threw a personal best 190-8 for fourth place at the Dusty Lane Invitational on March 17. His mark ranks him eighth all-time at Eastern. He also finished ninth in the javelin throw at 146-7. In the javelin, Irby has a career best 199-1 which places him 14th all-time in school history.

Tyler Cathey (So., Richland, Wash. - Hanford HS '05)
Cathey, was named Big Sky Conference men's field co-athlete of the week for April 24, qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships with a javelin throw of 203-9 at the Oregon Invitational (April 20). His personal best is 205-8, which ranks him tenth all-time in school history. He had that throw when he placed second at the 2006 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships as a freshman.
