Eagle Have One Last Chance in Idaho

The Eastern Washington University track and field teams will compete at the Vandal Jamboree in Moscow, Idaho, May 9-10 in its last meet of the regular season before heading to the Big Sky Conference Championships in Sacramento, Calif., May 14-17.

Last weekend, the Eagles competed at the Bronco Twilight in Boise, Idaho, on May 2, and the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Calif., on May 3-4.

Distance runner Camille Moseley set a new school record in the 1,500 at the Steve Scott Invitational with a time of 4:30.33 to break Hannah Lohrmann's time of 4:31.93 set in 1999.

Paul Limpf qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships in the 1,500 with a time of 3:54.84 to finish 10th at the Steve Scott Invitational. Teammate Curtis Suver had a time of 3:52.95 for a sixth-place finish.

Triple jumper Levi Knudson qualified for the BSC Championship with an effort of 45-5 1/4 to finish fifth at the Bronco Twilight.

Currently, 31 Eastern athletes have met qualifying standards 39 times for the BSC Championships (May 14-17 in Sacramento, Calif.), including six athletes who have met the standard for the NCAA West Regionals (May 30-31 in Northridge, Calif.).

Eastern's regional qualifiers thus far are freshmen Amanda Peterson and Aaron Mettler in the javelin, sophomore Nicole Luckenbach in the hammer, juniors Limpf and Mattie Bridgmon in the 5,000 meters and senior Moseley in the 5,000 meters. Big Sky individual champions will also advance to the NCAA West Regionals.

Top performers:
Nicole Luckenbach (So., Mill Creek, Wash. - Snohomish HS '05)
Luckenbach finished fifth in the hammer at the Steve Scott Invitational with a throw of 173-7. Luckenbach qualified for the NCAA West Regionals in the hammer with a toss of 178-4 at the 37th Annual Pelluer Invitational (April 11). In the process, she broke the meet record set by Eastern's Jaime Martin in 2002 and now ranks third all-time in school history. She is one inch from Martin's career-best of 178-5 that ranks second and is close to Julie Nelson's school record of 182-8 set in 2001. Luckenbach had already qualified for the BSC Championships with her throw of 175-5 at the Al Manual Invitational April 5.

Curtis Suver (Sr., Maple Valley, Wash. - Tahoma HS '04 & Jamestown College N.D.)
Suver had a time of 3:52.95 for a sixth-place finish in the 1,500 at the Steve Scott Invitational. He had already qualified for the BSC Championships with a time of 3:52.89 at the Mt. Sac Relays. Suver qualified for the BSC Championships in the 5,000 meters earlier this year at the Oregon Relays with a time of 14:25.78.

Camille Moseley (Sr., Ellensburg, Wash. - Kittitas HS `03)
At the Steve Scott Invitational May 4, Moseley set a new school record in the 1,500 with a time of 4:30.33 to break Hannah Lohrmann's record of 4:31.93 set in 1999. She had already qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships at the Mt. Sac Relays with a time of 4:35.42. She has also qualfied for the BSC Championships in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:44.09 at the Oregon Relays to rank second in school history behind teammate Mattie Bridgmon.

Geoff Penrod (Sr., Nine Mile Falls, Wash. - Lakeside HS `03)
Penrod had a personal best in the long jump with an effort of 23-2 1/2 to finish seventh. He already qualified for the BSC Championships with a mark of 22-11 3/4 at the 37th Annual Pelluer Invitational.

Other Notes:
In the Big Sky Conference preseason coaches poll announced on March 19, Eastern's men were selected to finish seventh while the women were picked eighth. Weber State was picked first for both the men and women. Last year at the conference championships, the EWU men finished sixth with 72.8 points and the women were seventh with 71 points. This year's BSC Championships take place in Sacramento, Calif., May 14-17.

Mattie Bridgmon (Laramie, Wyo. - Laramie HS '05)
At the Steve Scott Invitational May 4, Bridgmon had a time of 4:32.21 to rank fourth in school history in the 1,500 meters. She had already qualified for the BSC Championships with a time of 4:40.88 to finish first in that event at the 37th Annual Pelluer Invitational (April 11). At the Oregon Relays April 25, Bridgmon broke her own school record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:33.60. She already qualified for the NCAA West Regionals and the Big Sky Conference Championships earlier this season at the Mt. Sac Relays April 17. Her time of 16:47.65 broke Kari McKay's old record of 16:57.71 set in 1992. She is coming off of a championship in the 5,000 meters at the BSC Indoor Championships and finished 64th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Paul Limpf (Vancouver, Wash. - Evergreen HS `05)
At the Steve Scott Invitational May 4, Limpf qualified for the BSC Championships in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:54.84 to finish 10th in the meet. At the Oregon Relays April 26, Limpf qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships in the 10,000 meters with a time of 29:57.13. He ranks third in school history, only six seconds from the No. 2 spot and 11 seconds from the school record of 29:48.6 set in 1978 by Rick Adams. Limpf qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships and NCAA West Regionals in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:09.32 at the Mt Sac Relays April 17. That time ranks him second in school history behind Bob Maplestone's time of 14:09.0 set in 1972.

Aaron Mettler (Fr., Walla Walla, Wash. - Walla Walla HS `07)
Mettler improved his NCAA West Regional and Big Sky Conference mark in the javelin with a toss of 207-9 at the Oregon Relays April 26. He ranks 11th in school history.

Bonnie Millard (Jr., Priest River, Idaho - Priest River HS `05)
Millard who qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships improved her discus throw with a toss of 154-8 at the Oregon Relays April 26. Her career-best mark of 155-0 came in 2007 at the Big Sky Conference Championships for a first place victory.

Cameron Moore (Spokane, Wash. - Ferris HS '04)
Moore, who already qualified for the BSC Championships, had a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 47-9 1/4 at the Beach Invitational April 19.

Adam Stewart (Fr., Yakima, Wash. - Davis HS '07)
Stewart qualified for the BSC Championships in the high jump with a jump of 6-7 to finish third at the 37th Annual Pelluer Invitational (April 11).

Chad Butorac (Jr., Northport, Wash. - Northport HS '05)
At the Beach Invitational April 19, Butorac qualified for the BSC Championships in the 200 meters with a time of 21.97. Butorac qualified for the BSC Championships in the 400 with a season-best time of 48.27 to win that event at the 37th Annual Pelluer Invitational (April 11). He also won the 200 (21.8) and helped his 4x400 team to a first place victory with a time of 3:20.57. A junior from Northport, Wash., Butorac is chasing the school record of 47.05 set by Hogan Wrixon in 1988. Butorac's current career best is 47.19 to rank second in school history.

Brody Faire (Jr., Ellensburg, Wash. - Ellensburg HS '05)
Faire qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships in the shot put with a throw of 50-9 1/2 to finish second at the Dusty Lane Invitational (March 14-15). He also finished eighth in both the discus (135-7) and hammer (143-11).

Alex McNairy (Jr., Spokane, Wash. - Ferris HS '05 & Cal. Lutheran Univ.)
At the Bronco Twilight, McNairy had a personal-best time of 57.22 in the 400 meters. She had already qualified for the BSC Championships with a time of 57.26 at the Beach Invitational April 19. McNairy finished second in the 200 with a run of 26.36 at the Dusty Lane Invitational (March 14-15).

Krystal Deyo (So., Castle Rock, Wash. - Castle Rock HS '06)
Deyo qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships in the 100 meters wit a time of 12.39 at the Oregon Relays April 26. At the Al Manuel Invitational (April 4-5) Deyo competed in three events. She finished fourth in the 200 (25.99), was third in the long jump (16-6) and helped her 4x100 team to a first-place finish.

Amanda Peterson (Fr., Gig Harbor, Wash. - Peninsula HS '07)
Peterson improved her NCAA West Regional qualifying mark in the javelin with a throw of 154-5 at the Al Manuel Invitational (April 5). She won that event and now ranks sixth in school history. She had already qualified for the BSC Championships and the NCAA West Regional in the javelin with a throw of 152-6 at the Dusty Lane Invitational (March 14-15).
