Eagles Head to Seattle
Sept. 16, 2008
The Eastern Washington University cross country teams will be competing at the 17th-Annual Sundodger Invitational Saturday (Sept. 20). The women will be running at 9 a.m. in the 6,000-meter race, while the men will be competing at 11 a.m. in the 8,000.
"Sundodger, despite being early in the season, tends to be a great invite," said head cross country coach Chris Zeller. "It's a meet that really gets things going. We will see both Washington State and Washington along with a host of other schools that last year included UC Davis and Santa Clara."
The Eagles opened the 2008 season at the first-ever Clash of the Inland Northwest on Sept. 6. Eastern’s men’s team took first in dual meet scoring against Gonzaga, Washington State and Idaho. The women were third, beating Gonzaga.
Paul Limpf finished first in the 6,000-meter race with a time of 19:33.6. That race earned him Big Sky Conference Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 9. Teammate Alex Smyth finished second with a time of 19:42.1.
"Our men would like to keep the energy going that they received from last weekend’s victory at the Clash of the Inland Northwest," added Zeller. "WSU will be running a lot stronger this weekend and will be a good test for us."
"The women are coming off of a narrow victory over Gonzaga at the Clash of the Inland Northwest last weekend and would like to build off of that success," said Zeller. "We'll see them again as Gonzaga will be in the same race at Sundodger.
"Nickelson, Williams, and Stephanie Dye continue to be steady and keep improving" continued Zeller. "They all have the fire right now and would like to join the ranks with Nickelson up near the front of the pack."
