After going 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in Thanksgiving tournament, senior moves into top 10 in EWU record book for career free throws made
Julie Piper of the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team was selected as one of five standout players for the 24th Annual Omni Hotels Classic All-Tournament Team. Piper averaged 15.0 points per game in the two games played in Boulder, Colo., on Nov. 26 and 27. She shot an impressive 52 percent from the field and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
Although the Eagles were not able to record a win at the Omni Hotels Classic, Piper helped the team battle in competitive games against Loyola-Chicago and Evansville. Piper registered her first double-double of the season against the Ramblers with 20 points and 13 rebounds. She was 7-of-15 from the field, and knocked down all six of her attempts from the charity stripe. In addition to the double-double, Piper contributed three steals in the contest.
Piper also scored in double digits against the Purple Aces, tallying 10 points of 4-of-6 shooting. Although her time on the floor was limited due to foul trouble, she added six rebounds and two steals in just 15 minutes. Piper also hit both of her free throw attempts in the game against the Purple Aces, which propelled her into the top 10 in the Eastern record book for career free throws made. She now has 207 in her tenure.
The Eagles will get back to action on Friday, Dec. 3 when they take on Gonzaga at Reese Court at 7:05 p.m. The game will be televised regionally by SWX (SWX Digital 6.2 in Spokane, 25.3 in the Tri-Cities & 23.3 in the Yakima area; Comcast 115; Time Warner 306; Charter 287).
