Former Eagle Joins Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff
Eastern Washington University head women’s basketball coach Wendy Schuller has added a familiar face to her staff. After a successful four-year career playing for the Eagles, 2011 graduate Jessica Huntington has returned her to alma-mater to serve as assistant women’s basketball coach for EWU.

Eagles Ink Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year Tisha Phillips
Eastern Washington University head women's basketball coach Wendy Schuller announced Friday the final addition to her 2012 recruiting class - and she just happens to be the best high school player in the state of Idaho.Tisha Phillips, a native of Lapwai, Idaho, and two-year varsity letterwinner at Lewiston High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at EWU.

40 Selected to Winter All-Academic Team
A total of 40 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for winter quarter 2012. Of the total, 18 were from the women's indoor track and field team, 12 from the men's indoor squad, seven from women's basketball and three from the men's basketball team.

The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team saw its season come to an end in disappointing fashion, as No. 6 Sacramento State upset No. 3 Eastern, 71-61, in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Big Sky Conference Championship in Pocatello, Idaho.

Pair of Big Sky Standouts Tabbed as EWU’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month
After taking home a couple of prestigious honors from the Big Sky Conference, senior Brianne Ryan of the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team and junior Steven Warner from track and field were selected as the Scholar-Athletes of the Month. This award, presented by the EWU Athletic Department, recognizes the athletic and academic success of student-athletes, based primarily on performances turned in during the month prior.

Trio of Eagles Honored by College Sports Madness
Already recognized by the conference coaches as the Big Sky MVP and unanimous first-team selection, senior Brianne Ryan of the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team continues to haul in the hardware. Ryan was tabbed by College Sports Madness as one of the top players among all mid-major conferences across the nation. One of only two Big Sky players appearing on the list, the 5-10 guard from Lynden, Wash., was named to the All-Mid Major Second Team.

Brianne Ryan Named Big Sky MVP!
Senior Brianne Ryan of the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team now stands in a league of her own. Two years after being named the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year, the senior from Lynden, Wash., has been selected as the Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player. Ryan is the only player in league history to win both awards in a career. Senior Chene Cooper (Puyallup, Wash.) was also honored as a member of the All-Big Sky Second Team

Eagles Wrap Up Regular Season with 63-58 Loss to Idaho State
It was a battle till the very end, but the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team came up just short in its regular-season finale against Big Sky champion Idaho State. The Eagles fell to ISU, 63-58, on Saturday (March 3) at Reed Gym in Pocatello, Idaho. With a win against Portland State, Northern Colorado secured the No. 2 seed in the 2012 Big Sky Conference Championship, held March 8-10 in Pocatello.

Eastern Secures No. 3 Seed in Big Sky Conference Tournament
The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team has secured the No. 3 seed in the 2012 Big Sky Conference Championship, held March 8-10 in Pocatello, Idaho. Eastern (16-13, 10-6) will play No. 6 Sacramento State (12-17, 7-9) in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday (March 8). Tipoff from Reed Gym is scheduled for 4 p.m. PST.

Eagles Fall to Bengals and With it a Chance to Win Regular Season Title
In a showdown with the Big Sky Conference regular season title on the line, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team fell to Idaho State 63-50 Saturday (Feb. 25) on Senior Day at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. Eastern's third-straight loss helped the Bengals wrap-up the regular season title and host status for the Big Sky Conference Tournament on March 8-10.

Portland State Hands Eastern 76-69 Loss
The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team could simply not find an answer for the sharp-shooting Vikings on Thursday (Feb. 23) at Reese Court, as defending Big Sky regular-season champion Portland State upended Eastern, 76-69, in Cheney, Wash. Fortunately though, the loss did little to affect EWU's Big Sky title run, as current league-leader Idaho State (20-7, 12-2) also lost tonight at Sacramento State, 75-63.

Bears Hand Eagles First Road Loss of Big Sky Season
For the first time in the 2011-12 Big Sky season, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team will not be smiling on its trip back to Cheney. The Eagles lost to Northern Colorado, 56-49, on Thursday (Feb. 16) at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion in Greeley, Colo. Eastern had won all six of its previous six Big Sky road matches this season.

They just keep coming in for senior Brianne Ryan and the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team. For the second-consecutive week for Ryan and fourth in a row for EWU, the Big Sky Conference has recognized the outstanding efforts of the Eastern Eagles. After pouring in a career-high-tying 33 points against Weber State, Ryan was selected as the Big Sky Player for the Week for games played Feb. 6-12.

Aiming for 10th Big Sky Win, Eagles Host Weber State Thursday
The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team will host Weber State this Thursday (Feb. 9) in the first of back-to-back single-game weeks for EWU. Tipoff from Reese Court is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. For many teams, these slow, single-game weeks would be seen as an advantage. But for the flourishing Eagles, who have won five games in a row and eight of its last nine, all they want to do is play.

For the third week in a row, a different Eastern Washington University women’s basketball player has been tabbed as the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week. Senior Brianne Ryan was selected this week, alongside Montana State’s Katie Bussey, as the league’s Co-Players of the Week for games played Jan. 30 - Feb. 5. Senior Chene Cooper was the Big Sky POW last week, while junior Carrie Ojeda received the honor on Jan. 23. For Ryan, this is the third weekly honor of her senior campaign.

In front of a sold out crowd at The Nest in Sacramento, Calif., the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team overcame the obstacles to beat the Hornets of Sac State, 90-84, on Saturday (Feb. 4) in another important Big Sky Conference showdown.

Closing in on Big Sky Lead, Eagles Play at Sac State Saturday
Riding a four-game winning streak, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team heads back out on the road to play Sacramento State on Saturday (Feb. 4) at 2 p.m. in Sacramento, Calif. With a win Saturday at The Nest, the Eagles would catch league-leading Idaho State in the Big Sky standings. The Bengals would still have a slightly better percentage at 8-1, but the teams would be essentially even, as Eastern would improve to 9-2.

In the midst of winning six of seven Big Sky Conference games over the last month, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team has also been active off the court with a variety of community service projects. Among its many initiatives, the Eagles have teamed up with the Spokane Guilds' School and Neuromuscular Center to help promote the organization's annual "Kids for Kids" Penny Drive.

After winning three-straight games on the road, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team returned home to pick up one more, as it downed Northern Arizona, 84-58, on Thursday (Feb. 2) at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. The win Thursday, coupled with Idaho State’s overtime loss at home to Montana State, moves the Eagles within a half game of the league-leading Bengals.

For the first time since becoming a member of NCAA Division I athletics in 1983-84, the Eastern Washington women’s basketball team has swept the Montana road trip! Less than 48 hours after taking down perennial power Montana in Missoula, the Eagles defeated Montana State, 66-52, on Saturday (Jan. 28) in Bozeman, Mont.

When the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team plays Montana State on Saturday (Jan. 28) in Bozeman, Mont., it will be trying for a program first. Since becoming a member of Division I athletics in 1983-84, Eastern Washington has never swept a Montana road trip. But with the first one out of the way - a 67-57 win last night at Montana - the Eagles are now playing with house money.

Ojeda earned the honor after leading EWU to an important win on the road against defending Big Sky regular-season champion, and preseason favorite, Portland State.

Trailing by five points with less than six minutes to play, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team went on a 20-7 run in the final five minutes to hand the Vikings of Portland State a 75-67 loss on Saturday (Jan. 21) at the Peter W. Stott Center in Portland, Ore. With the win, the Eagles move into second place in the Big Sky standings with an 11-9 overall record and 5-2 mark in league play.

After graduating from Eastern Washington University in 2006, Julie Page returned to Europe with aspirations of playing women’s professional basketball in her native country. Now, six years later, Page has not only achieved her goal of becoming a pro, but has reached the pinnacle of athletic achievement in Great Britain.

Eagles Knock Off Weber State, 72-60
Led by Brianne Ryan’s double-double of 32 points and 13 rebounds, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team celebrated its first Big Sky road win of the season on Thursday (Jan. 5) in Ogden, Utah. The Eagles topped Weber State, 72-60, to earn their seventh-consecutive win against the Wildcats and fourth in a row at the Dee Events Center. With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-8 on the season and 2-1 in Big Sky Conference action, while Weber State drops to 2-13 on the year and remains winless in league play at 0-2.

Defensively, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team did its job. But its performance on the other end of the floor was a different story. The Eagles shot a season-low 27 percent from the field, while going 0-of-16 from the perimeter in the second half, as the Montana Lady Griz defeated Eastern, 53-46, on Monday (Jan. 2) at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash.

The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team will enjoy home court advantage in its 2011-12 Big Sky Conference debut. But the team it plays on Thursday (Dec. 29) at Reese Court will certainly put that advantage to the test. The Bobcats of Montana State, who returned four All-Big Sky Conference selections from a year ago, are currently atop the Big Sky standings with an 8-4 record from the non-conference season.

Eagles Have Hot Hand in 76-61 Victory Against Idaho
It was the most efficient night of the season for the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team. In its final non-conference game of the 2011-12 campaign, Eastern shot 50 percent from the field and nailed 11 3-pointers en route to a dominant 76-61 win against Idaho on Wednesday (Dec. 21) in Cheney, Wash. The Eagles (6-7) will enjoy one week off for the holidays before returning to Reese Court for the Big Sky Conference debut against Montana State on Thursday (Dec. 29).

Eagles Host Idaho Wednesday in Final Non-Conference Tune Up
If the pattern of the last six seasons continues, the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team will come away with a win on Wednesday (Dec. 21) when it plays Idaho at 6:05 p.m. at Reese Court. For the past six-consecutive seasons, Eastern Washington (5-7) and Idaho (4-7) have traded wins. Since 2005, EWU has won every game played in an odd year (05-07-09), while Idaho has captured the W in every even year (06-08-10).

Eagles Fall to Pacific on the Road, 69-60
The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team lost its second-straight contest on Monday (Dec. 19), as the Tigers of Pacific University upended EWU, 69-60, at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton, Calif. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 5-7 on the season, and will inevitably head into the 2011-12 Big Sky Conference season with a sub-.500 record. But Eastern does have one more opportunity to get back on the winning track before league play commences, as it hosts Idaho on Wednesday (Dec. 21) at 6:05 p.m.

Before enjoying a small break for the holidays, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team will have an action-packed week of three games in five days. It all starts this Saturday (Dec. 17) at 2 p.m. with a home game against the Broncos of Boise State. Eastern will then travel west to take on Pacific at 7 p.m. on Monday (Dec. 19) at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton, Calif.

Eagles Take Care of Eastern Oregon, 68-55
After a grueling five-game road swing, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team returned to Reese Court for its first home game in nearly three weeks against the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon. The Eagles defeated EOU, 68-55, on Monday (Dec. 12) in Cheney, Wash., to improve to 5-5 on the season. Eastern opened the game on a 15-2 run, with nine of those 15 points coming from senior captain Brianne Ryan.

Eagles Can't Hold On in Final Minute; Fall to Zags, 75-69
The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball was just moments away from pulling off a truly inspiring upset on Friday (Dec. 9) at the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, Wash., but in the final 40 seconds, the Bulldogs of Gonzaga pulled away to hand EWU a heartbreaking 75-69 loss. With 2:38 remaining on the game clock, Eastern (4-4) held a one-point advantage on the highly-favored Bulldogs at 69-68.

Although back in Spokane County, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team is not officially home yet. The Eagles play at Gonzaga this Friday (Dec. 9) at 6 p.m. to wrap up a five-game road swing that included two other WCC opponents and one from the Pac-12.

Eagles Bury Arkansas State, 72-51
With four players scoring in double figures, and an even more impressive defensive effort, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team rolled to a 72-51 victory against Arkansas State on Saturday (Dec. 3) at the ASU Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Eastern (4-4) recorded one of its better field goal percentages of the season at 43.3, and also had a 36-18 advantage in points in the paint. But much of its success on Saturday came on the defensive end, as the Eags forced a season-high 31 turnovers in the game.

In its second matchup this season against a Pac-12 team, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team really struggled to find the hoop in a 74-43 loss to Arizona State on Friday (Dec. 2) at the Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Ariz.

For the first time in head coach Wendy Schuller’s 11-year tenure, the Eagles will play Pac-12 powerhouse Arizona State in an early game on Friday (Dec. 2) at the Wells Fargo Arena. The Eagles and Sun Devils tipoff at 9:30 a.m. Pacific time.

For the second-straight outing, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team will play a team out of the West Coast Conference. The Eagles travel to the Rose City on Tuesday (Nov. 29) to take on Portland at 5 p.m. Pacific time in the Chiles Center. Eastern (2-3) is coming off a 77-58 loss at BYU, which became a member of the WCC just this season. Eastern will also face Gonzaga on Dec. 9 to close out a current five-game road swing.

After knocking down four treys in the first nine minutes of the game, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team went cold, converting only two shots in the final 11 minutes of the first half. Eastern found itself in a 17-point hole at intermission, and despite an honest effort in the second half, the Eags were unable to recoup the losses, as BYU rolled to a 77-58 victory on Saturday (Nov. 26) at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah.

Although it will go down as a loss for the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team, the Eagles gave Oregon State its toughest test of the season on Tuesday (Nov. 22) in a non-conference matchup at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. The Eagles fell to OSU, 74-60, to wrap up a four-game home stand. Eastern will now head out on the road for three straight weeks, which begins Saturday (Nov. 26) at Brigham Young.

Ryan Earns First POW Honor of Career
For the first time in her already decorated career, senior Brianne Ryan was selected as the Big Sky Player of the Week, announced Tuesday (Nov. 22) by the league office. Ryan was an All-Big Sky First-Team selection in 2011, and was named the Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. Ryan, a product of Lynden, Wash., had a remarkable performance on both ends of the floor to lead Eastern to a 68-57 victory over San Diego last Thursday (Nov. 17).

Senior Brianne Ryan was not only the top scorer, but led all players on the glass as well, as the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team tamed the Toreros of San Diego, 68-57, on Thursday (Nov. 17) at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. Ryan scored nearly half of her team's total points to become the first player in the Big Sky this season to eclipse the 30-point scoring mark.

Meeting for the first time in history, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team lost to a fast and physical Hofstra squad, 90-69, on Sunday (Nov. 13) at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. Eastern, now 1-1 on the season, committed 27 turnovers in the game and gave up 52 points in the paint.

Ryan Garners Preseason Honors
Brianne Ryan of the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team was honored as a preseason All-Big Sky First-Team selection by College Sports Madness. Ryan will return as a senior captain this season after celebrating a highly successful 2010-11 campaign. Ryan was one of six elite players named to the All-Big Sky First-Team last year, and was also a Big Sky All-Academic team member. In Big Sky Conference play, Ryan led the league in minutes per game (35.8), and was third in scoring (15.9/game) and field goal percentage (.508).
