Ogden, Utah – Senior forward Aubrey Ashenfelter has been named co-Big Sky Player of the Week following her outstanding performance against Idaho last weekend, the conference announced Monday, Dec. 16.
It is the first weekly honor of Ashenfelter's four-year career at Eastern.
She notched her second career double-double against the Vandals on Saturday, Dec. 14, tying her career high with 20 points while dishing out a career-best 10 assists. She added a game-high seven rebounds, leading the Eagles in all three major statistical categories. She added three steals and two rebounds to her impressive stat line.
"I'm very happy for Aubrey," head coach Wendy Schuller said. "She's a player that we consider to be extremely valuable to us, even when she's not scoring. It's great to see her recognized for her outstanding play."
The Portland, Ore., native drained seven field goals on the night, none more important than her game-winning jumper that came with two seconds left to lift Eastern to victory. After freshman Jade Redmon grabbed an offensive rebound with 12 ticks remaining, the ball was reversed to Ashenfelter, who drove into the lane from the left wing. Her jump stop sent the Vandals' defender flying, allowing her to calmly drain a shot from the Big Sky logo below the free throw line.
She finished 7-of-15 from the field, knocking down a trio of three-pointers and all three of her free throw attempts.
Ashenfelter is averaging 7.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.2 steals on the year. She ranks in the top 10 in the Big Sky in assists per game and steals per game (2.3).
She shares this week's award with North Dakota's Madi Buck, who had 37 points in UND's win over North Dakota State last Saturday, Dec. 14.
The Eagles return to the court tomorrow, Dec. 17, against Northwest University. Tipoff it set for 6 p.m. PST at Reese Court.
