Junior Kellie Holmstedt leads Eastern with a 70th-place finish as the Eastern women’s golf team plays the first of two-straight tournaments in Chandler, Ariz.
In the first of two-straight tournaments at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz., the Eastern Washington University women’s golf team finished 21st out of 23 teams at the University of Wyoming Cowgirl Classic which concluded Tuesday (April 6).
Led by the 70th-place finish of junior Kellie Holmstedt, the Eagles now set their sights on the Big Sky Conference Championships April 19-21 in Chandler. Eight of the nine Big Sky Conference schools took part in the Cowgirl Classic, but the only league foe EWU finished ahead of was Idaho State.
Holmstedt finished the three-round tournament with a 25-over-par 331, and as a team EWU finished with a total of 988 strokes (124 over par). Morgan Lee was 98th to finish eight strokes behind Holmstedt, who had the team’s top individual performance with a 76 in Monday’s first round.
Eastern’s five-player contingent for the remainder of the season includes four freshmen and one junior. Sophomore Kylie Ray recently had wrist surgery, an operation she was originally going to hold off having until the end of the season.
