Holmstedt Leads Eagles in Spring Opener

Junior Kellie Holmstedt was the top Eastern Washington University finisher as the spring portion of the 2009-10 season began Monday and Tuesday (March 1-2) in the Fresno State Lexus Classic at the Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif.

Holmstedt finished 59th with a 25-over-par, three-round total of 241 strokes. She had the team's top round with a 78 in the second round on Monday.

Freshman Dana Stapleton was 68th as the Eagles finished 14th. UC Davis won the team title and San Jose State's Cristina Corpus won medalist honors with a two-over-par 214.

The Eagles play the second of four spring tournaments on March 25-26 at the Cal Poly Lamkin Grip Invitational at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
