Senior wraps up fall season with second career GOTW award
After finishing just three strokes over par in her final event of the 2010 fall season, Eastern Washington University golfer Kellie Holmstedt was selected as the co-Black Clover Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week.
Holmstedt, a native of North Bend, Ore., took fourth overall at the Shocker Invitational in Newton, Kan., after carding a two-round total of 147 (75-72).
Her second-round score of 72 was the best recorded since her freshman season, and helped the Eagles capture third place at the eight-team tournament. Holmstedt has led the Eagles in every event of the fall season, recording a 77.5 stroke average over the four outings. Her fourth-place performance at the Shocker Invite marked the third top-five finish of her career.
Holmstedt was recognized alongside Tiffany Schoning of Portland State as the co-Black Clover Golfers of the Week. Schoning, also a product of North Bend, Ore., tied for first at the Oregon State/Washington Triangle after recording a 74 in the single-round meet.
The Eagles will begin their spring season on Feb. 26-27 when they travel to Sedona, Ariz., for the Red Rocks Invitational. The team will have four tournaments in the spring before the 2011 Big Sky Conference Championships, held April 18-20 in Chandler, Ariz.
