The sixth annual WSU Cougar Cup has the EWU women's golf team traveling to Pullman, Wash. to compete Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 23 and 24, at Palouse Ride Golf Course for the fourth consecutive year.
Fresh off a phenomenal season opening performance at the Bronco Fall Invitational at the beginning of the week, head coach Brenda Howe's young squad turned in a three-round total that was a full 60 shots lower than the team's 2012 opener. They look to continue that success this week in Pullman.
Sophomore Marissa Borja leads a solid group that includes three sophomores and a freshman in addition to a pair of juniors and a lone senior. Borja's six-over-par three round total of 222 was good enough for a tie for 11th last week, and that momentum should carry over into the Cougar Cup, which will be rife with regional talent.
Eastern will be one of five Big Sky Conference schools competing in the tournament, one of which (Portland State) competed at the Bronco Fall Invitational as well. Seeing and competing against conference foes early on in the season will help the young team gain valuable experience that will be put to good use come springtime.
