The Eastern Washington University women's golf team had a very strong showing at the NCAA West Regional Preview at the Lincoln Hills Golf Course in Lincoln, Calif., the same place the NCAA West Regional will take place.
The Eagles finished in an eighth-place tie against a top-notch field with a 913 (302-298-313), while Chelsey Lollar tied for sixth in the individual competition by turning in a 220 (74-72-74). This tournament marked the first time Lollar has led the team in scoring since doing so at the BYU Dixie Classic from April 3-5, 2006, and her first-ever top-six finish.
Also placing high was Marli Mikulecky, as she shot a 226 (76-74-76) and finished in a 24th-place stalemate. Kellie Holmstedt was tied for 75th with a 240 (76-82-82). Chloe Nelson had an even middle round and completed her tournament in a tie for 79th with a 241 (88-72-81), while Kristina Gargaro recorded a 244 (76-80-88) to finish in a 90th-place tie.
Not only did the Eagles tie with Big 12 Conference-member Colorado, but they also finished ahead of No. 50 San Francisco, as the Dons placed 12th.
Eastern Washington will play its last full tournament of the regular season Monday-Tuesday (April 7-8) at the Cowgirl Classic Invitational, which takes place at the Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
Following a one-day Big Sky Conference Preview Challenge two days later, EWU will set its sights on the league championship from April 21-23.
