The Eastern Washington University women's golf team started the spring portion of its 2008-09 schedule this week with the Anteater Invitational, hosted by Dove Canyon Country Club in Dove Canyon, Calif.
The Eagles placed 14th in the three-day event which concluded on Wednesday (April 1). The top individual performance for an Eastern golfer came courtesy of Kristina Gargaro, who shot a 247 (85-79-83) to tie for 51st place.
Next for the Eagles was Marli Mikulecky, who had a 248 (86-84-78) to finish in a 53rd-place stalemate. She was followed by Kellie Holmstedt, who had two of the four eagles in the tournament. For the three days, she carded a 250 (86-80-84) and tied for 57th. Kylie Ray was 74th, as she had a 277 (97-87-93).
Long Beach State claimed the team title, while UC Davis' Chelsea Stelzmiller took home the individual crown.
Eastern Washington will have a short turnaround before once again heading for warmer weather, playing at the Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz., and the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. That event will take place on Monday and Tuesday (April 6 and 7).
All nine Big Sky Conference teams will participate in that event, as the tournament will take place at the same golf course that will host the Big Sky Championship from April 20-22.
