The Eastern Washington University women's golf team, as did a number of other Big Sky Conference schools, got its feet wet on Thursday (April 10) at the Foothills Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz., site of the Big Sky Championship from April 21-23. Eight of the nine league schools took part (all but Portland State) in the one-round Big Sky Preview.
Eastern Washington placed third with a 317, just three strokes behind Northern Arizona (314) and two behind Montana (315). The rest of the field, in order, consisted of: Weber State (324), Northern Colorado (326), Sacramento State (327), Montana State (329) and Idaho State (337).
Individually, three Eagles finished in a sixth-place tie with a 79: Marli Mikulecky, Kellie Holmstedt and Chloe Nelson. Tying for 12th was Kristina Gargaro (80) and finishing in a 38th-place stalemate was Chelsey Lollar (85).
Next up for the Eagles is the Big Sky Championship. The winner of the tournament will earn the Big Sky's automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals, which will take place from May 8-10.
