The Eastern Washington University women's golf team faced another challenging field at the NMSU Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate this week and placed 16th in the field. The tournament was hosted by the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces and was a three-day affair, played from Monday-Wednesday (Oct. 13-15).
The Eagles carded a 956 (320-316-320) as a team. Setting the pace for Eastern Washington was Chloe Nelson, as she scored a steady 228 (74-78-76) to tie for 22nd in the individual rankings.
Kellie Holmstedt was second on the squad with a 236 (82-80-74), tied for 52nd in the field, while Kristina Gargaro finished in a 68th-place stalemate with a 241 (83-80-78). Ines Pantoli finished in the 89th slot with a 265 (81-92-92), while Marli Mikulecky withdrew after carding an 83-78 the first two rounds.
UC Irvine won the team title, while Baylor placed second and Oklahoma was third. Jane Chin of UC Irvine claimed the individual crown.
After having played four tournaments the first four weeks of the season, Eastern Washington will now take a little time off from competition before participating in its last fall tournament of the year.
That will take place from Oct. 27-29 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev., will host the three-day, three-round event.
