The Eastern Washington University women's golf team moved to a perfect 14-0 against Big Sky Conference competition this fall after impressively finishing fourth at the 19-team Aztec Fall Classic. The tournament took place at the Salt Creek Golf Course in Chula Vista, Calif., and the two-day event concluded on Tuesday (Oct. 16).
The Eagles finished with a team score of 612 (305-307) and were led by freshman Kristina Gargaro. She shot a 150 (76-74) to tie for seventh. Juniors Marli Mikulecky and Chloe Nelson each finished in a 17th-place tie with 152s (74-78 for Mikulecky, 78-74 for Nelson).
UC Irvine won the tournament with a team score of 593 (297-296). The Anteaters outlasted Hawai'i and East Tennessee State, who each finished tied for second 10 shots behind UCI with 603s (302-301 and 301-302, respectively).
Big Sky teams participating included Sacramento State (ninth, 624, 306-318), Montana (10th, 625, 308-317), Portland State (t11th, 626, 312-314) and Northern Arizona (16th, 636, 318-318).
The Eagles have one final tournament to play in this fall, and that will be the Founders Invitational from Oct. 29-31. That will be hosted by Anthem Country Club in Henderson, Nev. Following play at that tournament, the Eagles will be off from competition until March 10.
