This weekend has the Eagles traveling to North Dakota for the first time in program history, where they will face both Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and host North Dakota State as part of the Doublewood Inn Classic. EWU has never played SIUE prior to this weekend, and has only faced one other team from the Missouri Valley Conference in the program's 15-year existence, a 2003 victory over Northern Iowa. This will only be the third time Eastern has played the Bison, but the first at their home pitch. Last season, the Bison defeated Eastern 3-2, while the teams tied 1-1 at a neutral site in their first ever meeting in 2008.
Eastern's four goals and two assists have come at the hands of three players, all of whom have scored during both games in which EWU has registered goals this season. Cassie Black and Alisha Stott each have two goals apiece, while Haley Stading has credited herself with a pair of assists. Look for those stats to expand against NDSU, who has given up 20 goals in eight games this season.
Junior goalie Nathalie Schwery, thought getting roughed up for four goals over the weekend, still managed to put up a season high in saves at Gonzaga with nine. Already in 2013, Schwery has come up big with eight saves in two other games to go along with her performance on Tuesday. Look for Schwery to be tested heavily against both SIUE and North Dakota State, who each have goal-per-game averages above 1.40.
