Eastern Loses to Temple University in Double Overtime

The Eastern Washington University women's soccer team loses to Temple University Sunday (Sept. 2) at the Northern Arizona University Mountain Classic. The Eagles came back in the second half after being down, 2-0, to tie up the game before losing in double overtime, 3-2.

Sophomore Chelsey Hannesson had the Eagles' first goal in the 65th minute, and senior Cyeeta Mott scored the second goal in the 83rd minute with the assist coming from junior Brittney Doran.

Cyeeta Mott is closing in on a trio of school records with nine goals, five assist and 23 points in her career. The current record of 11 goals is held by Jennie Summers (2002-05), Beth Russell (2002-05) compiled five assists in her career, and Summers currently holds the point record of 26.

The Eagles will have their home opener against local rivals Gonzaga University at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 9). In addition, the soccer team will have a free clinic at 10:30 a.m., and all children through eighth grade are welcome.

The last time the Eagles beat Gonzaga was back on Oct. 4, 2002, at Gonzaga, 2-1. The Eagles have never beaten the Bulldogs at home, going 0-3-1 with the tie, 0-0, coming back on Oct. 31, 2001. The Eagles lost to Gonzaga, 3-0, in the teams' last meeting on Sept. 2, 2006.
