Eagles Lose in Overtime to BSU

The Eastern Washington University women's soccer team lost its fourth game of the season, falling in heart-breaking fashion 4-3 to the Boise State Broncos Friday (Sept. 8) at the EWU Sports and Recreation Center in Cheney, Wash.

With the loss, the Eagles move to 1-4 on the season. Eastern's next game is this Sunday (Sept. 10) at home against the Nevada Wolfpack at 1 p.m. at the EWU Sports and Recreation Center. Nevada will enter that game with a perfect 4-0 record.

Down 3-1 with sixteen minutes remaining, EWU midfielder Melissa Guthrie scored two goals to rally the Eagles and tie the match at three apiece. That caused the match to go into sudden victory overtime consisting of two ten minute periods.

In the sixth minute of the first overtime, Boise State freshman forward Kaylea Perenon scored the winning goal for the Broncos.

Eastern held the shots advantage 16-13, but none of those 16 shots occurred in the first overtime period. True freshman forward Brittany Sparks had EWU's first score in the first half to tie the game at one. Eastern's lone assist on the night went to sophomore forward Lillian Bourret on Guthrie's second goal.
