Eagles Win with Five Minutes to Go
Sept. 14, 2007
The Eastern Washington University women's soccer team beat Cal State Bakersfield 1-0 in Cheney, Wash., Friday, Sept. 14.
"It was a pretty even game all the way," said head coach George Hageage.
Chelsey Hannesson had a goal in the 86th minute on a free kick from 25 yards out to give the Eagles the win over the Roadrunners. Hannesson has a total of three career goals for EWU, two this season.
"It was a great strike by Chelsea," added Hageage.
The Eagles had a total of 13 shots to Cal State Bakersfield's 15.
"I feel good about where we are. We've won a couple games, so we're at .500. I can't remember the last time that happened (EWU had a 2-2 record in 2004)," commented Hageage.
Eastern (2-2-0) will play Boise State (2-3-0) Sunday (Sept. 16) in Idaho at noon PT. The Broncos were defeated Friday (Sept. 14) by Weber State 3-0 in Utah.
The Eagles lost to the Broncos at home 4-3 in double overtime on Sept. 8, 2006. Eastern has never beaten Boise State, going 0-7-1 against the Broncos, with the only tie coming back in 2005 on the Broncos' home field. The teams have played every year since 2001.
