The Eastern Washington University women’s soccer team finished up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 2-0 loss at Seattle University on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 5). The Eagles will begin Big Sky Conference play on Thursday (Oct. 9) at Idaho State.
In today’s contest, the Redhawks (6-2-3) got on the scoreboard at the 69:26 mark when Kate Edstrom scored off of a cross from Kahlyn Keilty-Lucas. Seattle University made it 2-0 at the 79:07 mark with a score from M’ily Reiter, who headed in a corner kick taken by Kassandra Riozzi.
The best chance for Eastern Washington to get on the scoreboard came courtesy of Jocelyn Bement, who forced Seattle University’s goalkeeper to make a save at the 85:20 mark. She also had a shot that went high with 7:32 showing on the clock. Other shots by Eastern players today were taken by Chelsey Hannesson (10:19) and Lauryn Koelzer (65:14). Ashley Renz made five saves in the contest for the Eagles.
Eastern Washington will face Idaho State (2-7-3) at 3 p.m. Pacific Time on Thursday. The two teams just missed the four-team Big Sky Championship last year, as they tied for fifth place with nine points (just one behind fourth-place Portland State’s 10 points and two behind a pair of squads tied for second with 11 points).
