Shelly Ikerd scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute, but the Eastern Washington University soccer team was unable to hang on in the second half as EWU fell to Sacramento State 2-1 Sunday (Oct. 15) in Sacramento, Calif.
The Eagles (5-10-1, 1-3-0 BSC), looked like they were headed into halftime with the lead until Katie McCoy scored in the 45th minute for the Hornets on a penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1.
Kelly Novak scored the winning goal for Sacramento State in the 83rd minute to move the Hornets to 8-6-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Big Sky Conference.
Eastern was out-shot for the match 27-5, and Tiera Como recorded nine saves for the Eagles.
Women's soccer action continues Thursday (Oct. 19) as the Eagles will host Weber State (5-5-3, 2-1-1) at 3:30 p.m. at the Sports and Recreation Center in Cheney, Wash.
